A group of United Nations human rights experts has issued a formal condemnation regarding the increasing pressure placed on LGBTQ organizations within Turkey. These officials characterized the government's recent actions as a harsh suppression of legitimate human rights activities. The Turkish administration, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has frequently used derogatory language to describe the community. Recent state interventions have involved police raids on private residences, nightclubs, and bars associated with activists. The UN statement urged Turkish authorities to cease the harassment of these groups and to guarantee a secure environment where individuals can exercise their fundamental rights to assembly and expression without the threat of legal repercussions or intimidation. While consensual same-sex activity is not prohibited under Turkish law, the experts highlighted that systemic hostility toward the LGBTQ population continues to persist throughout the country.
