Federal agents in the United States apprehended 34-year-old Wanying Zhang at Los Angeles International Airport as she prepared to board a flight to China. According to official statements from US prosecutors and the FBI, Zhang is charged with operating as an unregistered foreign agent. She allegedly conducted surveillance on the son of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te and his relatives residing in the United States. The accusations include documenting the family's residence and vehicles to provide intelligence to Chinese handlers. This arrest occurs amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions, as Beijing maintains its claim over Taiwan and has not ruled out the use of force to achieve reunification. Zhang remains in custody following her detention on Sunday.
