The United States Treasury Department has introduced a proposal to broaden its existing restrictions on outbound investments involving sensitive technologies. This initiative aims to include North Korea and several other nations under the regulatory framework of the Outbound Investment Security Program. By implementing these measures, Washington intends to block foreign adversaries from utilizing American financial resources to advance their military and technological capabilities. The proposed rules, which are set to appear in the Federal Register, build upon current limitations already applied to China, Hong Kong, and Macau. This move reflects a broader strategic effort by the US government to safeguard national security interests by controlling the flow of capital into sectors that could enhance the defense infrastructure of rival states.
