The Uzbekistan Sumo Federation, founded in late 2023, has announced that it will host the Tashkent Sumo Open on October 8, 2026. The event is scheduled to take place at the Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports, featuring participants from Russia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Since its inception, the national federation has actively promoted the Japanese martial art, with local athletes successfully securing 30 medals across various international competitions held in countries including Japan, Thailand, and the United States. Organizers believe that hosting this regional tournament will serve as a significant catalyst for the sport's growth within the nation, providing a platform to discover and nurture emerging talent for future international representation.
