A recent report indicates that global deforestation decreased by 15 percent in 2025, with seven million hectares of forest cover permanently cleared. This area is comparable to the size of Ireland. Despite this annual reduction, experts warn that the progress remains insufficient to meet international environmental targets. Furthermore, the outlook for future forest preservation is concerning due to worsening conditions within the Congo Basin. Researchers also highlighted that the intensification of a powerful El Nino weather pattern poses a significant threat to ongoing conservation efforts. While the overall trend shows a temporary slowdown in tree loss, the combination of regional instability in Central Africa and adverse climatic shifts suggests that the current improvement may be short-lived.
