The 2026 Baoji Marathon in Shaanxi Province recently concluded with a field of 31,000 participants. The sporting event distinguished itself by incorporating local historical motifs into its equipment and awards. Competitors wore jerseys influenced by traditional Chinese bronzeware, while those completing the race received medals designed after the Lai Pan, a ritual vessel from the Western Zhou period. Additionally, female athletes who finished the course in less than three and a half hours were awarded "Baoma" clay horses. These figurines are based on Fengxiang clay sculptures, which are recognized as part of China's national intangible cultural heritage. By blending athletics with regional history, the marathon highlighted the deep cultural roots of the northwest Chinese city.
