Beijing has issued a formal warning to Manila following an alleged airspace breach over the South China Sea. The Chinese military’s Southern Theater Command claimed that a Philippine aircraft entered the airspace above Scarborough Shoal, which China refers to as Huangyan Dao, without authorization. In response, Chinese forces monitored the plane and took measures to expel it from the area. Conversely, the Philippine military reported that one of its Cessna 208 turboprop aircraft was conducting a routine patrol when it was intercepted by a Chinese fighter jet. This incident marks another escalation in the ongoing maritime and territorial disputes in the region, where China continues to assert broad claims despite international legal challenges. Both nations remain at odds over sovereignty in these contested waters, leading to frequent confrontations between their respective air and naval assets.
