A 28-year-old Chinese national, Zhao Ziqi, received an eight-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to a theft charge. Zhao arrived in Singapore in late 2025 and befriended a 37-year-old compatriot at the Marina Bay Sands casino. In January 2026, Zhao requested a loan of S$50,000 from his acquaintance, citing significant gambling losses. The victim agreed to provide the funds and met Zhao at the Orchard Hotel to deliver the cash. During the encounter, Zhao seized the money and fled the scene. The incident was brought before the court, where the defendant admitted to the theft. He was subsequently sentenced on September 8, 2026, for his actions.
