A wholesale market is currently under construction on a plot in Ashulia, Dhaka, originally reserved for the establishment of a private medical facility. The land, which was previously part of the Kamar Para School and College property, was designated in 2010 for the proposed Uttara Bangabandhu Medical College and Hospital. Community members express concern that this development signals a permanent repurposing of the site, effectively ending plans for the medical institution. The project was initially promoted by local Awami League figures during their period of political influence. Following the recent mass uprising in July and the subsequent departure of those leaders, local control has shifted to members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Residents now believe the current market construction makes the original vision for a medical college highly improbable.
