October 10 marks the second World Migratory Bird Day of the year, emphasizing the theme "Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter!" This initiative encourages the public to document bird sightings, providing essential data that assists researchers in monitoring population trends, mapping migration paths, and identifying critical habitats requiring conservation efforts. As autumn migration begins, birds travel across continents, relying on wetlands, forests, and mudflats to rest and forage. China plays a significant role in this global phenomenon, hosting over 800 migratory species out of its total 1,505 recorded bird varieties. By participating in citizen science, individuals contribute directly to the scientific understanding and protection of these species as they navigate between their breeding and wintering grounds.
