A severe security vulnerability has been identified in PHP, a programming language that powers over 70% of websites worldwide. If left unaddressed, this flaw enables unauthorized access, potentially allowing hackers to seize control of servers and sensitive data. In response to the threat, various international cybersecurity agencies, including those in the United States, Australia, Japan, and several European nations, have issued urgent warnings to developers. Some organizations, such as the Port of Rotterdam, have temporarily suspended web operations as a precautionary measure. While the developers of the open-source language have released patches to resolve the issue, the widespread nature of PHP means that updating millions of affected systems remains a significant and time-consuming challenge for the global digital infrastructure.
