As Delhi's air quality recently declined to the poor category, the Commission for Air Quality Management activated the first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan. This protocol mandates increased mechanical road sweeping, water sprinkling to suppress dust, and restrictions on specific construction activities within the National Capital Region. While various monitoring stations and digital dashboards provide extensive real-time data on air pollution levels, experts note a lack of transparency regarding the actual capacity of authorities to effectively mitigate these environmental challenges. Research indicates that transport is a significant contributor to local emissions, accounting for nearly 18% to 39% of the total. As winter conditions approach, further deterioration of air quality is expected, necessitating continued reliance on established advisory systems and pollution-control protocols despite ongoing concerns about the efficacy of current administrative responses.
