The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has identified portable power banks as the most frequently confiscated items from checked baggage since updated security protocols were introduced on October 16. These new regulations authorize security staff to inspect suspicious luggage without the owner's immediate presence. Alongside power banks, officials have also intercepted various battery-operated electronic devices. Aviation authorities emphasize that these items present significant fire and short-circuit hazards when stored in an aircraft's cargo hold. Consequently, passengers are strictly required to transport power banks exclusively in their carry-on luggage, adhering to established limits on quantity and capacity. This initiative aims to enhance flight safety by ensuring that high-risk electronic equipment is not stored in areas where potential malfunctions could lead to dangerous incidents during transit.
