Following the pivotal role played by Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles in turning the tide during Ethiopia's 2020–2022 civil war, the East African nation has shifted toward local manufacturing. Federal forces successfully utilized Turkish-made drones to repel Tigrayan rebels when they neared the capital, Addis Ababa. Since that conflict, Ethiopia has expanded its inventory to include advanced Turkish Akıncı and Bayraktar TB2 models, as well as equipment from China and Iran. Analysts estimate that the federal military, which maintains exclusive control over the country's drone fleet, now possesses thousands of units. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially inaugurated domestic production facilities, signaling a strategic move to reduce reliance on foreign imports. These assets are currently being deployed to address ongoing insurgencies across various Ethiopian regions.
