The European Union has signaled that Pakistan's continued access to GSP+ trade preferences is not guaranteed as the current framework approaches its expiration at the end of the year. EU Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis emphasized that Islamabad must actively address specific conditions to qualify for the upcoming successor regime, which is expected to impose stricter compliance standards. While the current agreement concludes shortly, the EU has provided a two-year transitional period during which existing beneficiaries will maintain their current trade advantages. However, the ambassador stressed that the government in Islamabad needs to demonstrate tangible progress in its domestic situation to successfully navigate the reapplication process for the new trade framework. The future of these economic benefits remains contingent upon Pakistan meeting the evolving criteria set by Brussels.
