Rice cultivation in Kurigram's Rowmari upazila has expanded by 1,625 hectares this season due to the absence of flooding. Despite this growth, the supply of fertiliser has failed to keep pace with rising demand. Local farmers are facing significant challenges as allocations are distributed by union rather than by the actual number of cultivators. Furthermore, poor coordination between administrative officials, distributors, and retailers has exacerbated the scarcity. These systemic issues have left many farmers unable to secure necessary agricultural inputs from official channels. The resulting frustration culminated in a recent incident at Bandaber Bazar, where local growers forcibly accessed a warehouse belonging to Mita Hasan Enterprise to obtain supplies. Authorities are now facing pressure to address these distribution inefficiencies to support the current planting season.
