The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) officially announced that former Speaker Martin Romualdez has been transferred to their custody from the Philippine National Police. The handover occurred on September 10, 2026, at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, in accordance with a commitment order from the Sandiganbayan Third Division. Officials stated that Romualdez will receive standard treatment consistent with all other detainees, explicitly denying any preferential or VIP status. Once he receives medical clearance for discharge, he is scheduled to be moved to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory located in Payatas. This development follows recent legal proceedings at the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court regarding motions filed by the former speaker.
