However, presiding judge Joanna Korner stated that the court expects his attendance, noting that judicial authorities determined in January that he is fit to face trial. Duterte faces allegations of crimes against humanity linked to his administration's anti-drug campaign, which involved numerous fatalities during his tenure as mayor and later as president. The former official continues to reject these accusations. Judge Korner indicated that his presence is required unless a verified medical emergency arises.
