A special CBI court in New Delhi has cleared Dr. S. Eswara Reddy, the former joint drugs controller at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, of all charges in a 2022 bribery investigation involving Biocon Biologics. The court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case, noting a lack of proof regarding the alleged demand or acceptance of bribes. Furthermore, the judge dismissed claims of criminal conspiracy, clarifying that the regulatory approval process for the insulin injection in question followed standard procedures without improper intervention. Consequently, the court ordered the discharge of Dr. Reddy and three other individuals involved in the case. Dr. Reddy expressed relief following the verdict, while the involved government and corporate entities did not provide immediate comments regarding the court's decision.
