Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has formally opted out of attending the fifth status conference regarding his crimes against humanity case at the International Criminal Court. Scheduled for November 2, 2026, the hearing will proceed with Duterte's legal representatives managing all procedural requirements in his absence. Documentation submitted to the ICC Trial Chamber III on October 30 confirmed that the former leader had requested to waive his right to be present. The court approved this request on October 29, provided that a signed waiver was officially filed. Consequently, Duterte has authorized his defense team to address the specific agenda items and any additional issues that may emerge during the proceedings on his behalf.
