A court in Henan Province has handed a fourteen-year prison sentence to the former mayor of Wuhan, Zhou Xianwang, following a conviction for corruption. Judicial authorities in Shangqiu determined that Zhou abused his official powers between 2003 and 2025 to facilitate business operations, engineering contracts, and administrative approvals for various parties in exchange for illicit payments. Zhou, who served as the leader of the Hubei provincial capital during the initial emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, had been under formal investigation since July 2025. The court confirmed that the defendant utilized his multiple government roles to secure personal financial benefits, leading to the current sentencing. This ruling concludes the legal proceedings against the former official regarding his long-term involvement in bribery schemes.
