French President Emmanuel Macron has declined to accept the resignation of Interior Minister Laurent Nunez following intense civil unrest across the country. The demonstrations, fueled by concerns over the rising cost of living, resulted in significant urban violence, including widespread looting and arson. Official government data indicates that nearly 2,400 individuals were detained during the weekend, while approximately 1,000 law enforcement officers sustained injuries during the clashes. Although opposition figures demanded Nunez be dismissed, the Elysee Palace stated that the President prioritized maintaining stability within the security apparatus during this volatile period. Macron admitted that there were shortcomings regarding intelligence and foresight in managing the situation, yet he maintained his support for the current interior leadership to ensure continued order.
