The Bangladesh government has officially approved a plan to shift the national Secretariat from its current Abdul Gani Road location to the former trade fair grounds in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani confirmed that the administration aims to commence operations at the new facility by 2029. This decision follows a proposal endorsed during a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. While the move is confirmed, authorities are still deliberating the future use of the existing Secretariat buildings. One potential proposal under consideration involves moving the Dhaka district administration offices and local courts from Old Dhaka to the current Secretariat site, though no definitive conclusion has been reached regarding this transition. Senior officials from the Ministry of Housing are involved in the planning process for this major administrative relocation.
