The Group of Seven has reached a consensus to supply 100 million barrels of oil to global markets to mitigate the impact of record-high fuel costs. This initiative, coordinated by the International Energy Agency, will take place over a four-month period, with a significant portion of diesel reserves being released within the first three weeks. The decision follows discussions between U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the economic strain caused by rising energy prices. While the administration maintains that current geopolitical conflicts are necessary to prevent nuclear proliferation, the surge in fuel costs has negatively affected public approval ratings and economic sentiment. The release aims to stabilize supply chains as the U.S. approaches upcoming midterm elections, despite ongoing challenges in managing domestic inflation and public perception of the current administration's economic performance.
