The Hong Kong Buildings Department has brought 259 charges against two companies and four individuals. These legal actions relate to extensive renovation work carried out at Wang Fuk Court, a housing estate previously damaged by a significant blaze. Investigations revealed that materials without fire-retardant properties were utilized in the construction. Additionally, it was determined that crucial safety obligations were not fulfilled during the project. The department announced on Wednesday that the accusations include permitting or authorizing the deployment of defective building materials, or those that failed to meet the stipulations of the Buildings Ordinance. This enforcement highlights concerns regarding adherence to construction safety standards following the estate's prior incident.
