A coalition of prominent human rights defenders, senior legal professionals, and civil society activists has formally condemned Home Minister Sudhan Gurung for his recent intimidating comments directed at the press. In a collective statement, figures including former National Human Rights Commission member Sushil Pyakurel and senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi characterized the minister's September 23 remarks as unacceptable and anarchic. The group argues that such rhetoric undermines press freedom and poses a direct threat to media personnel. Consequently, these campaigners are insisting that the minister retract his statements immediately and offer a public apology to address the concerns raised by his conduct. The signatories emphasized that such behavior from a high-ranking government official is inappropriate and detrimental to democratic norms.
