A recent annual report published by the Human Rights Association (İHD) highlights significant human rights concerns in Turkey throughout 2025. According to the findings, at least 1,842 individuals experienced torture or mistreatment, while 6,719 people were held in arbitrary detention. The document attributes these figures to ongoing judicial pressure exerted against those critical of the government and broader restrictions on civil liberties. The İHD asserts that these statistics reflect a deepening decline in democratic standards and a trend toward authoritarianism. The association notes that state institutions, including law enforcement and the judiciary, have been utilized to stifle political and social opposition. Despite initial hopes for progress regarding the Kurdish conflict, the report concludes that fundamental rights continue to face substantial challenges across the country.
