The Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kazakhstan has alerted the public to a rising cybercrime trend affecting residents in the North Kazakhstan Region. Fraudsters are contacting citizens while impersonating staff from eGov or Public Service Centers, falsely claiming that their digital signature keys require renewal. Victims are instructed to interact with their phone keypad, which then triggers follow-up calls from individuals posing as security officials. These callers falsely allege that the victim's account has been compromised and unauthorized loans have been initiated. To resolve the fabricated issue, the criminals pressure targets to secure a so-called mirror loan and deposit the funds into a controlled account. Authorities have confirmed approximately 20 reports of this specific scam tactic recently, urging citizens to remain vigilant against such deceptive practices.
