An independent committee investigating the fatal Wang Fuk Court fire has determined that there is inadequate evidence to connect former Tai Po district councillor Peggy Wong to allegations of bid-rigging at the housing estate. The final report, which was recently submitted to the government, addressed public concerns regarding Wong's potential involvement in the renovation project that preceded the disaster. The tragedy, which resulted in 168 fatalities and displaced thousands of residents, has been the subject of intense scrutiny and public debate. While the inquiry examined testimony from local residents during public hearings held earlier this year, it ultimately concluded that the claims against the former councillor could not be substantiated. This report was released shortly before Chief Executive John Lee announced the resignation of housing chief Winnie Ho.
