At the 81st UN General Assembly, Iran’s deputy representative Gholamhossein Darzi denounced recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iranian nuclear facilities. Darzi asserted that these strikes violate international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which guarantees the right to peaceful nuclear energy development. He accused Western powers and the IAEA of hypocrisy for failing to condemn the aggression while simultaneously pressuring Tehran. The envoy highlighted that the attacks caused significant casualties and destruction, including the death of the Iranian leader. Regarding IAEA inspections, Darzi stated that current security conditions, resulting from the military operations, prevent the resumption of verification activities. He argued that the responsibility for ensuring a safe environment for inspectors lies with the aggressor nations, emphasizing that Iran remains committed to its treaty rights despite the ongoing geopolitical pressure and perceived double standards in global non-proliferation efforts.
