Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran's representative to the United Nations, stated that Tehran remains dedicated to ensuring maritime safety and security. During a Security Council session focused on Middle Eastern affairs, the diplomat asserted that Iran’s actions are grounded in its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Darzi criticized Israel for alleged violations of international law, citing ongoing military operations in Gaza, settlement expansion in the West Bank, and actions in Lebanon and Syria. He called for a permanent ceasefire, the removal of the blockade on Gaza, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. Furthermore, the Iranian envoy emphasized that any future framework for Gaza must prioritize Palestinian self-determination and sovereignty. He concluded by demanding accountability for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel across the region.
