The Jeddah Mayoralty has introduced compulsory design regulations for all new residential construction and facade renovation projects within the city. Effective since May, these guidelines require developers and homeowners to integrate traditional Hejazi coastal architectural elements into their building plans. The initiative seeks to modernize urban aesthetics while maintaining the region's historical identity. Key requirements include the use of local materials, specific color schemes like sandy tones and pearl white, and structural features such as projections and setbacks to improve natural lighting, ventilation, and shading. The municipality has warned that failure to adhere to these design mandates will result in penalties. By incorporating these heritage-inspired components, the city aims to preserve its unique structural character while promoting sustainable and contemporary building practices across its residential landscape.
