Sushil Thapa, managing director of Times Energy Pvt Ltd, suggests that a landslide at Ungilung Khola may have initiated the severe flooding observed in the Budhi Gandaki River. Following an aerial inspection of the affected region in northern Gorkha on Sunday, Thapa identified the landslide site within a tributary of the Syar Khola, located in Chumchet-6. While the exact origin of the disaster remains under investigation, initial assessments point toward this geological event as the primary catalyst for the subsequent surge. The flood resulted in significant destruction, impacting infrastructure near the confluence of the Syar Khola and the Budhi Gandaki River, situated approximately five kilometres from Philim. Authorities are continuing to evaluate the situation to confirm the precise sequence of events leading to the environmental damage.
