The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has implemented a temporary suspension of the Vehicle Type Approval for the Chery Omoda 5 model. This regulatory action follows a widely circulated incident in Johor Bahru involving the vehicle's rear axle, which sparked significant public safety apprehension. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli confirmed that the suspension also prevents the registration of new units of this specific model. The department stated that this measure is a precautionary step intended to protect motorists while comprehensive technical investigations are conducted to determine the root cause of the failure and assess potential risks. The suspension will remain in effect until authorities are satisfied that the safety concerns have been fully addressed and the vehicle meets the necessary standards for road use.
