Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that Malaysia is focusing on proactive preventive strategies and diplomatic collaboration to manage transboundary haze. Rather than pursuing financial compensation from neighboring nations, the government believes that structured diplomatic engagement and technical cooperation are more effective ways to handle these sensitive regional concerns. As the head of the National Disaster Management Committee, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that early intervention is essential to mitigate the impact of haze. He noted that Malaysia intends to work closely with officials from both neighboring countries and domestic state authorities to ensure coordinated efforts. This approach aims to resolve environmental challenges through mutual understanding and technical alignment within the ASEAN framework, avoiding the complexities associated with assigning liability between sovereign states.
