The Ministry of National Unity is currently evaluating potential updates to the Mediation Act 2012 to better support community-based dispute resolution. Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang noted that the existing legal structure, primarily relying on the Rukun Tetangga Act 2012, lacks the necessary depth to fully regulate the National Unity and Integration Department’s mediation initiatives. Currently, these services—which include the training and certification of mediators—operate without a dedicated, comprehensive legal foundation. To address this, the Ministry has initiated discussions with the Legal Affairs Division to explore legislative amendments. The objective is to establish a robust and clear legal framework that formalizes community mediation processes, ensuring they are better equipped to handle local disputes effectively across the country.
