Senate President Francis Escudero recently analyzed the financial disclosures of Vice President Sara Duterte, noting a discrepancy between her declared assets and recorded bank activity. Escudero calculated that Duterte’s total assets reported in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) from 2022 to 2025 amounted to approximately P336 million. This figure stands in contrast to the P424 million in combined inflows and outflows identified within the bank accounts belonging to the Vice President and her spouse, Manases Carpio, during the same timeframe. Escudero clarified that his methodology involved aggregating annual SALN figures to test a hypothesis, while acknowledging that this approach is not a standard accounting practice, as SALNs represent cumulative snapshots rather than additive yearly totals. The remarks were made during ongoing impeachment-related discussions.
