Manchester United is set to host Azerbaijani side Sabah FK at Old Trafford this Thursday, marking the club's first-ever encounter with a team from Azerbaijan. This fixture represents a significant return to the Uefa Champions League for the English giants, following a period of absence from the competition that included a Europa League final defeat in 2025 and a subsequent season without European football. While United played pre-season friendlies in July, Sabah FK navigated a challenging qualifying path, overcoming Finnish champions KuPS to reach this stage. Despite being considered underdogs initially, the Azerbaijani club successfully progressed through four qualifying rounds to secure this high-profile match. Manchester United approaches the game with cautious optimism as they look to re-establish their presence in Europe's premier club tournament.
