During the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) summit held in Ankara on October 30, Mirvohid Azimov was officially appointed as the new secretary general. Azimov, who previously served as Uzbekistan's deputy foreign minister, becomes the first Uzbek national to occupy this leadership position. He replaces Kubanychbek Omuraliev from Kyrgyzstan, who had been in the role since 2022. With over two decades of diplomatic experience, Azimov has previously worked at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization secretariat in Beijing and led the legal department within the Uzbek Foreign Ministry. An alumnus of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, he holds advanced degrees in international law and a Candidate of Legal Sciences title. His appointment marks a significant milestone for Uzbekistan's involvement within the regional organization.
