Moscow officials have revealed a comprehensive strategy to significantly broaden the capital's underground rail network into surrounding suburban districts over the coming decade. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that approximately 30 stations are slated for completion within five years, with an additional 35 planned by 2035, including twelve located within the Moscow region. This infrastructure project aims to enhance connectivity for millions of residents living in areas such as Khimki, Mytishchi, and Odintsovo. Governor Andrei Vorobyov noted that the expansion, with construction scheduled to commence after 2028, is expected to serve 600,000 daily commuters and reduce travel times to the city center by up to an hour. This initiative represents the latest stage in the ongoing development of the metropolitan transit system under the current mayoral administration.
