A regional conference in Moscow focused on Afghanistan concluded without a joint statement due to escalating friction between Pakistan and the Taliban administration. The eighth iteration of the Moscow Format, which includes representatives from nations such as Russia, China, India, and Iran, was intended to foster consensus regarding security and economic stability in Afghanistan. However, the proceedings were disrupted by intense disagreements between Islamabad and Kabul concerning terrorism and border security issues. This failure to produce a unified declaration represents a notable decline for the diplomatic mechanism, which has functioned since 2017. While the meeting aimed to address regional connectivity and counterterrorism efforts, the persistent confrontation between the two neighboring delegations dominated the event, preventing the participants from reaching a collective agreement.
