Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is evaluating the potential reintroduction of government austerity policies as escalating tensions in the Middle East threaten to destabilize oil supplies and increase costs. During a recent high-level meeting, the administration assessed the implementation of the Special Relief Scheme, which aims to provide fuel subsidies to low-income and middle-class citizens operating motorcycles, rickshaws, and small-engine vehicles. Information Minister Ataullah Tarar confirmed that officials are currently discussing the revival of previous conservation efforts to mitigate the economic impact of global fuel shocks. The Prime Minister has instructed relevant authorities to prioritize the effective delivery of these subsidies to ensure maximum support for vulnerable segments of the population facing financial strain due to the volatile energy market.
