The Department of Health in the Philippines is actively developing strategies to boost organ donation rates across the nation. Undersecretary Albert Domingo noted that the current rate remains below one donor per million people, a figure significantly lower than the 30 to 40 donors per million observed in countries like Spain. To address this, the government is collaborating with the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. to potentially cover expenses associated with organ retrieval from deceased donors. This initiative aims to strengthen the Philippine Network for Organ Sharing and improve overall access to transplant services. The proposed financial support would encompass costs related to brain death assessments and ensure that the process of harvesting organs is conducted in an ethical and respectful manner.
