Construction at Phu Quoc International Airport is intensifying, with over 7,600 personnel working to finalize the new T2 terminal. The project, which features a distinct Fire Phoenix-inspired design, has reached 95% completion on its concrete framework, while the steel roofing is already finished. Workers are currently installing thousands of glass panels and complex electrical systems, alongside an automated baggage handling network. This expansion is critical for the island's infrastructure, aiming to boost annual capacity to 24 million passengers by 2030, with long-term goals reaching 50 million. The facility is being prepared to host the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November 2027, with a technical flight test planned for late 2026 to evaluate operational readiness. As Vietnam's premier island destination, these upgrades are intended to solidify Phu Quoc's status as a major international aviation hub.
