The Rawalpindi Ring Road project has encountered another setback, missing its sixth scheduled deadline for full operational status. While the 38.6-kilometer stretch connecting the GT Road Banth Interchange to the Thallian Interchange is physically finished, including four interchanges, the installation of toll plazas remains incomplete. Inflationary pressures have pushed the total project cost up by Rs3.5 billion. The Punjab Ring Road Authority is currently assuming phased control of the infrastructure as officials deliberate whether to open the road before the toll booths are fully functional. A final inauguration date is pending, with authorities waiting for a schedule from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to officially open the route to the public.
