Philippine Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has voiced apprehension regarding an impending rise in electricity costs as the nation grapples with high inflation. The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) confirmed that its rates for October will climb to P15.0615 per kilowatt-hour, representing a P0.3191 increase compared to the previous month's rate of P14.7424 per kilowatt-hour. The utility provider attributed this upward adjustment to the rising costs of fuel used in power generation. Gatchalian highlighted the potential impact of these higher energy expenses on consumers already struggling with the current economic climate and inflationary pressures.
