Senator Panfilo Lacson stated that the Senate retains 11 million pesos for the ongoing impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. According to figures provided by Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, approximately 14 million pesos have been utilized from the 25.7 million peso allocation designated in the 2025 General Appropriations Act. Lacson emphasized that the remaining funds are adequate to conclude the trial, noting that only one article of impeachment is left to be addressed and the defense team has yet to present its case. He dismissed recent assertions by Duterte’s spokesperson, Salvador Paolo Panelo Jr., who alleged that 500 million pesos had been squandered on the process. Lacson suggested that Panelo’s claims were likely based on a misunderstanding of the actual financial data, and he expects the proceedings to conclude without requiring additional appropriations.
