Singapore’s Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI) has formally addressed allegations regarding the country's use of natural gas imported from Indonesia. A ministry spokesperson confirmed that all piped natural gas received from Indonesia is utilized exclusively for domestic needs rather than being re-exported. This clarification follows remarks made by Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, Bahlil Lahadalia, who suggested without evidence that Singapore was reselling Indonesian liquefied natural gas to third-party nations. Additionally, Bahlil asserted that Indonesia's move to reduce gas exports to Singapore remains compliant with existing contractual obligations. The Singaporean government's statement serves to refute these claims, emphasizing that the energy supply is dedicated to internal consumption.
