The South Korean stock market witnessed a sharp downturn on Monday, with the KOSPI index dropping by 3.26 percent to finish at 6,684.37. This decline, representing a loss of 225.54 points, was driven by investor apprehension regarding ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Furthermore, market sentiment was negatively impacted by recent cautionary statements from American technology leaders concerning the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. The sell-off primarily targeted major technology firms, contributing to the overall market retreat. Concurrently, the Korean won weakened against the US dollar. Trading activity remained relatively subdued throughout the session, with a total volume of 274.4 million shares changing hands, valued at approximately 20.19 trillion won.
