Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has confirmed that the Sinjar Resistance Units (YBŞ), a Yazidi militia associated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, have agreed to surrender their weaponry to the central government. Following discussions with YBŞ leadership and the Yazidi Cause Alliance, the administration plans to incorporate eligible militia members into the national security apparatus. This initiative aims to establish full federal control over the Sinjar region, replacing localized paramilitary authority with official state institutions. By centralizing security operations and consolidating military assets, the government intends to stabilize the area and enhance the protection of its local population. This move marks a significant shift in the administrative and security status of the Sinjar district, as the state moves to unify its military command structure under federal law.
